Of course I dislike them as well. It's not hard to say that they aren't good movie. Just compare them to the previous movies and you can see what's wrong. Both the Alien and Predator used to be scary monsters in scary movies but AVP and AVPR aren't scary. It's not scary seing monsters fighting each other and it totally isn't scary to see how easy a xenomorph is killed just by stabbing it. Still AVP looks like an Oscar winner compared to AVPR but here is the thing about the first movie: It has an interesting story, good design, colouring, make up and such, except for the creatures, they look horrible. There also are some good actors but the problem is they don't get much developed, after the half of the movie almost every is dead. Setting the story on Earth also makes the Alien movies pointless but I don't need to talk much about that because AVP belongs in space with colonial marines which weren't in the movie, so a big piece is missing. Now to AVPR. Well... everything that could get wrong just went wrong in that movie. The lightning is shitty, the effects are shitty, the story is shitty, the characters are shitty and so on. It just was an insult to the Predator and specially to the Alien series. The alien and predator movies wanted us to care about the characters, so you fear for them if they live or die, in AVPR you don't see any character development that makes not caring about them and it doesn't get scary when they die. Even their decisions had a big lack of logic, the only character that seemed smart was that asshole ex boyfriend who suggested to leave the town but in return the others just called him stupid. The xenos were so easy to kill that they never are going to scare me again, it's really not worth to make more Alien movies just because of that mess from AVPR. Same goes for the Predator, he went to earth to save humanity, ok, so now always when I see a Predator I think "Hey look it's creature that tried to save the Earth from the Aliens, he can't be evil". That movie really was the worst thing that could happen to both series. I don't know how you guys think about Predators which came out after AVPR. I think Predators was pretty decent but it didn't make me fear, I'm sure AVPR is the reason for that.

I haven't played AVP2 in years. Shame my copy won't work on windows 7. I hope steam release it like they did with the original AVP game.

You're never gonna get better than AVP2, so why not just remake it?

First one was a great camp-fest. Second was awful. It could be great, but it needs a few things: -Colonial Marines -Space -Good Artistic Designers -A plot other than kill, an actual goal. -Good actors. -A good director.

Unfortunately I only have an Xbox 360, which I do still occasionally play AvP on. I posted this topic on our AvP Facebook page to hopefully get more players together so you can still enjoy the MP aspect of the game.

@shambs, I agree with you. The games, comics, and novels are just there to tell stories. They are not part of the canon. That is what makes the comics so good as well because they can tell the stories that they want to tell without messing up the film timeline. Also, let us not forget that there are some great ideas in the comics that people could incorporate into future films. I am not saying that they should make a direct adaptation of any of the comic book story lines, but there are alot of ideas that could make for great [i]Alien[/i] and [i]Predator[/i] films.

I have been reading some discussions about this in AVP galaxy. what I find funny is that many fans seem to see the EU as canonical. IMHO the comics are just to enjoy, like video games, There's no reason to want to get angry about it, unless the stories are horrible, but that's another point.

Hello everyone, my name is Nathan. I recently joined earlier this month, and I have made a few posts. I first became acquainted with the Alien and Predator franchises when I was 10. My dad was watching the first [i]Predator[/i] film on TV, and I immediately fell in love with it. I soon became very interested in all things [i]Alien[/i] and [i]Predator[/i].I have seen all of the [i]Predator[/i], [i]Alien[/i], and [i]AVP[/i] films. I remeber watching those films constantly even though the AVP films were very bad. I remember that I my first AVP game was [i]AVP Extinction[/i] for the PS2. I loved the game. Unfortunately, I was not really good at RTS games so I never got to beat it. My favorite game though was [i]Predator Concrete Jungle[/i]. That was probably one of the best stories that I ever played through based on the Predator mythos. I love to play [i]AVP[/i] 2010 on my 360, and I get on there quite often. What I'd like to see is something totally "out there", strange, weird, chilling, adult in nature. For me, the biggest mistake with AvP was to have them set on Earth! As for a director......hmm.......David Cronenberg could certainly make a movie I would like to see, however I'm pretty sure it wouldn't please the 'comic book' fans, and there's absolutely no way the studio would be brave enough to hand an auteur like him carte blanche!

I know that some of the old [i]Aliens[/i] comics had the engineers in them and I don't think that was done quite right. But with [i]Prometheus[/i] as a backdrop and new writers I think it has potential to be cool. I'm really excited about the AVP comics too. And who knows, if the comics do well, maybe there will be another movie for me to be disappointed in.

I think that the connecting thread between Prometheus and Alien isn't going to be fleshed out any more than it was onscreen in Prometheus, since Lindelof and Ridley have stated an infinite amount of times how the events in Prometheus are tangential, but not related to Alien, and how from this point on we'd be delving into new territory. So, that being said, Dark Horse just might be able to feed us some satisfactory answers that, while not necessarily cannon, would certainly be fun to read and maybe offer some closure on that front.

I think that it could actually be done very well if done right. People have to remember that the comics have never affected the actual film canon. Since it doesn't, Dark Horse is able to take liberties with the source material. Also, I would have to disagree with Chris that the [i]Alien[/i] and [i]Predator[/i] film franchises are dead. There are still some good ideas left. I think that [i]Predators[/i] set up that world with a lot of good ideas, and I think that, if done right, [i]Prometheus[/i] can breathe new life into the [i]Alien[/i] franchise.

Prometheus is a new approach for us all to debate over until we get a glimpse at Paradise... if that happens. I appreciate Dark Horse Comics, and will remain optimistic that they have their history correct and not make things complicated! :D

Yeah, can't say I'm loving this idea of merging the franchises into a comic, but I'll remain optimistic. Hopefully they don't think this is an option for the sequel to Prometheus... I seriously pray they don't merge the franchises on screen - that would be the final nail in the coffin. Prometheus has set out to breathe new life into the Alien franchise, with a fresh set of concepts and ideas. I would hate to see Fox let someone butcher this "young", new franchise by mixing it with the likes of AvP and Predator. Leave those franchises to their own demise and give Prometheus the growing space it needs. We haven't even begun to crack the potential it has.

I agree with the above users about the Space Jockeys. They need to be left out of it at least until there is more revealed about them in the movies or the new Dark Horse comics. I think that a customizable character would be really cool. I could just imagine customizing your aliens and predators. What would be even better is if you get to play the different types featured in [i]AVP Extinction[/i]!

I think that this will be very interesting. It is funny how they want to tie in the [i]Prometheus[/i] and [i]AVP[/i] universes. Man, if the humans thought that the Xenos and Preds are dangerous, just wait what kind of weapons and danger the Engineers pose.

Firstly Shams, the Giger pic above should have been the design for the Deacon in Prometheus... In the next AVP id like to see more Gigeresque design. AVP 1's Xenos were ok, but 2 were total crap and Chet was a major disappointment. Hates the dreads, the skin colour, the fleshy appearance. I agree with the comments above about ADI. They ripped of Giger and then changed his masterpiece film by film into just a scary animal.

If they do infact do that make these game companies keep their word by protest because of what they did to Aliens CM. Keep them in the hotseat and do not back down because these companies are now these corporations and that gaming should have never been turned into it. Anyways, maybe do it in a completely new style 3rd person but like Skyrim where you can chose viewer modes. Customizing would be so cool and so awesome that no one Predator looks alike.

Didnt like the second one it was so dark you couldnt even tell if an alien was hiding or just a dark blob. The Strauss Bros. did their best but it needed a high class director. The first AVP I agree wasnt that bad but they should've stayed away from the Prometheus idea because they are hunters not civilizers.

I always thought that the avp galaxy could have been so awesome. Anyways I don't give personal info about myself because it is about the forum not me. However prometheus and aliem is very close to my heart. So I take very seriously. Avp though is more of a "what could have been" exercise and it has so much potential that iam agahast that there wasn't a film made that really delved into the predator and alien home worlds - that showed us where they cam$e from and the reason for there existance albeit ambiguos LOL. That is why I always come here to see what people discuss .as for myself I don't consider myself intelligent or smart. I just want a place where I can break away from boring existance and be like a predator king of the jungle stalker of the city not afraid anything but with a strong moral code that guide the usage of technology no killing of woman and children - maybe getting rid of some bad people along the way.

I love the concept the idea but the movies could have been much more than it was. Don't hate the movies as I think someone would have done it anyway. I can't understand why the avp universe can't exist by itself and keep being explored. But what did people expect from the avp movies anyway ? I never hear anyone actually say what they would have wanted form auch a movie and also: Who should have directed ? Who should have written the story etc ? Any ideas ?

if they did they should let you customize your Character come on people I want to look like scar in the game with a whole bunch of weapons seriously they need to do that
