An Alien vs. Predator anime series was originally developed for Netflix many years ago, but following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, the project was hidden away, presumably shelved indefinitely. Back in 2020 we first caught wind of the unreleased Alien vs. Predator anime and then 3 years later the series' original director Shinji Aramaki broke silence and admitted to the existence of the project. At the time, it was revealed the series had been in development since as early as 2015.
The series was developed under the title Alien vs. Predator: Annihilation and was going to span 10 episodes.
In terms of storyline, it was revealed that the Aliens vs Predator anime took place on a massive ship used for immigration. Various predator factions were involved with the show’s plot, and the aliens we first met under director Ridley Scott played a major role, according to ComicBook.
With the resurgence of Alien and Predator respectively, exploring new films and their own individual spin-off series - now is the perfect time for Disney to revisit their dormant AvP anime. Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Killer of Killers anime series has gained tremendous excitement within the fan community since its teaser trailer dropped and while not an anime, Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth series is positioned with some promise as well.
With murmerings of a new Alien vs. Predator movie in the works at Disney and 20th Century Studios as well, it seems like there's no better time to capitalize on the hype surrounding this iconic crossover.
