Alien vs. Predator 3 - Sequel or Reboot the franchise?

It's no surprise that throughout 2017 and 2018, Alien and Predator will be making a big comeback in Hollywood. Now, I'm extremely thrilled to see both Alien: Covenant and The Predator take these franchises back to their respective roots, but the thought in the back of everyone's mind is - will these two ever cross paths again?

Growing up I was a huge fan of Dark Horse Comics' Aliens vs. Predator comicbook line. The story, the characters, everything about it I loved.

When Paul W.S. Anderson's Alien vs. Predator movie hit in 2004, I was less than impressed, only to be totally turned off the AvP franchise when it's sequel AvP: Requiem arrived a few years later.

Most will agree the AvP film adaptations lacked key factors which made the original series stand out. The concept had so much potential, had they utilized a better cast, a better script and better suited directors.

My question today is, if Fox choose to revisit this crossing of franchises down the road, because we all know it's a money maker and will likely be discussed following the success of Alien: Covenant and The Predator, should they continue on the same plotline left behind by the established AvP films? Or, should they reboot the series completely, giving the reigns to a more deserving director, casting and writing better characters and setting the film in a more believable timeline?

Personally, I'm all for a reboot. A deep space war, between Colonial Marines, Aliens and Predators are what made the games so effective. Bring back the suspense, tension and horror and you could very easily create an amazing versus flick. They would need to show respect of course to both IPs, not treating and showing Aliens as mindless insects and not teaming Humans up with Predators. A free for all, set in the far future, maybe even on board a USCM vessel or Weyland-Yutani ship, who knows!

My point is, the potential for these two crossing paths again is there and I would totally get behind it, but only if Fox took it seriously and treat it with the same respect and devotion as what they're showing towards Covenant and The Predator. Who's with me?

I would love to see them have another bash at it but not for a few years. let ridley got his movies done along with alien5 and if there will be a sequel to the predator then let them get those out the way first. the 2 franchises need to recover from avp/ avpr. a good script and director who can bring something from the comics alive would be just the thing the crossover needs. but I hated the idea the predator already knew of the xeno. take the predator out of its comfort zone. maybe they r hunting colonial marines on a distant world. the marines r there regarding a xeno presence on a world marked for terraforming. the predators land on the planet oblivious to the xeno presence and bam, u have an all out battle where the predators, under equipt and unprepared for the ferocity of the xeno, r fighting for survival yet have discovered a more hostile prey to hunt in the future. perhaps the predators change tact and decide to capture a queen and the marines have to stop them? the xeno is doing its thing and killing everything and the marines r being hunted on both fronts and battle for survival

My vision about true AvP movie:

Class: Horror, Space sci-fi.

Species/Number: 2 aliens (1 xeno- & 1 predalien), 2-3 predators (one is facehugger victim), 10 ppl (armed, but not Colonial Marines).

Place: Ancient engineer base with Giger-style.

Details: all races versus all. Not noble predators (but very evil and brutality space maniacs). Aliens is very smarter and much stronger than predators. Aliens not victim for predators, but ultimate space horror creature. Humans is not stupid meat.

BTW, AvP now: human<alien<predator or even alien<human<predator.

True AvP (in my vision): human<predator<alien or human<predator<engineer<alien.

Agree with everything you said. It should be set in the future, in the timeline of Alien/Aliens. I always enjoyed the original comic and I especially loved the story line of the AvP2 video game. It's tricky, and can easily become silly (as the two AvP movies have shown) but if it gets a decent budget, a sci-fi setting and a director who takes it seriously then we should be able to get a good film out of it. Most important things: Not on earth, not in the present day, and no teaming up of humans and predators. I would even suggest to remove the connection between the predator and aliens. Do it like in the second AvP game, Weyland Yutani researching the aliens and the engineers, and the predators getting drawn to this great battle arena to hunt some trophies.

I would LOVE a sequel or a reboot. I love the first AVP movie. I have seen it at least a hundred times. I love it because I have a crush on Scar (one of the Yautja's/predators). So honestly, I would love to see a new one. BUT, I have a demand.... They must include Ian Whyte!!! (Ian Whyte plays as all of the predators we see in Alien vs Predator AND Alien vs Predator Requiem. If he is in it, you should know that I will be the first one to get tickets to the movie.

Nice to see this bumped...

Indeed i think a Reboot is needed and one that is set in the time line of Post Aliens in 2179, it could work if done right but i cant see this happening.

I think the cross-over will now be confined to Comics, and Books and Video Games and that Predator Franchise and Alien one will be kept as Two separate ones as far as Movies.

But if FOX feel it could make money then in what 20 years time who knows..

Really? Half of what I have read leads me to..."REALLY?"

Throughout the origins of BOTH franchise's, by story-line, mythology, et al., both species have been linked. The linkages can even be seen in most of all of the movies since the first Predator.

ALL AvP movies were poorly done, and in the wrong time line.

Prometheus adds ANOTHER variable to the entire universe.

Returning to each franchise being separate us smart at this time because the AvP's were BAD and Prometheus "muddied the waters."

Whether it is a complete re-boot, or just ignoring the bad, is irrevelant. Another AvP WILL happen for a miriade of reasons. All we can do is "HOPE" they get it right this time.

And before anyone says A's and P's don't belong together...take some time and research, if not actually read EVERYTHING ever written. Each race has it's own pro's/con's. Humans are phisacally mire weak than either. The A's abd P's are ALMOST equal in yheir own rights. The ONLY reason that humans can hold theur own against either us because humabs either won't, or don't know to, quit and lay down and die.

In this book/comic/movie series humans are like reality's U.S.M.C.: no retreat, no surrender, never back down, never give up...but sometimes uou have to back up to regroup.

If the AvP movies were done properly, and the installment of Prometheus was clearly outlined before release, then 95% of this whole debate wouldn't even be here

Chris- I love AVP but AVPR was horrible. I love the idea of carrying on with that franchise. It might do well as a Netflix series? I am all for it!

since Predator and Alien belong to other franchises it's probably too expensive with the royalties and stuff; it would have to be a blockbuster like Avengers for it to be worth it imo.

I do like all scifi stuff and actually enjoyed both AVP movies. First was my favorite, since the second one killed off the lil brother's love interest "accidently" (not even a good death!); I guess this movie (AVPR) was made in an era when useless female characters (eye candy) were starting to be phased out but not completely; tbh that's actually why I like the alien movies, the strong female roles.

I still stand by a full fledged AVP reboot, I absolutely hate AVP (2004) and I think Requiem did a fine job freeing the Alien and Predator series from being stuck in that iteration of AVP.

They should outright ignore all the previous AVP films with only Predator, Predator 2, Predators, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant kept in its canon. It should be set after Aliens, it should be loosely based on AVP 2/Primal Hunt's storyline with some updated references to the Prometheus and Covenant.
